A Lady Timeless Tutorial
...a dingbat is a picture font... the butterfly on the background to this page is an impression so-to-speak from a dingbat... the words were created with Cursif font... this tutorial is for the Webtv/Msntv users who at least have some general knowledge of Image Magick and how it works... please consider that some things may be slightly different for some users and as dingbats get more popular with Msntv users and more people try to use Image Magick, it will go down and sometimes you will experience strange results just before it does actually go down.. with that out of the way let's start... |
| ..first you will need to look through dingbat font files and choose one that suits your needs... please read their terms of use and abide by them or else you will be wasting allot of time and you could get into trouble.. from what I know so far there is shareware (requires a small fee), postcardware (requires you to send a postcard to a named person), and freeware (free to use as you please MOST of the time but NOT always though).. if you are unclear about their terms of use email the webmaster and I'm sure they will be more than happy to explain things to you.. just explain to them what your intensions are ... House of Lime has excellant dingbats and plenty to choose from so I will choose a file from there.. I will explain a little about unzipping a file for those that want to know... most sites that have dingbats will give you a choice of two file types.. either Mac or PC files... the one that has the extension .zip is the ONLY files we can unzip and use which is the PC file and is represented most of the time by a little Windows icon...(not always though) |

now go to House of Lime and click on the Ding Link on the left side bar... there are so many wonderful dingbats to choose from I chose Designer Dings... click on that link and you will see the character picture fonts (not all dingbat sites do this, it's an extra bonus when they do :-) thanks Lime!) print this page now if you have a printer.. now at the bottom of the page you will see two small icons.. the one on the left is a little windows icon and the one on the right is a Mac icon.. click the left one.. if you get a pop-up saying:
the item chosen contains a kind of information that Webtv can't use. click "Continue" then click "Options" then click "Go to" then "Show last" ... the file that shows up should have the a .zip extension.. if a pop up doesn't come up then you will see a bunch of random letters and symbols... while viewing the symbols click "Options", then "Go to", then "Show last" ... (just like when you grab a url to a midi or image) CC&P the zip file so you can take it with you...it should look like this http://www.100megsfree.com/lime/dings/Zip/DBLDesignerDing.zip |

YIPPIE! an unzipper again FINALLY!!! if you know how to use a transloader then you know how to use this unzipper.. zz4 Unzip Transloader it unzips your files and transloads them into your directory (make sure and read the readme.tx files that come with some files) to find out how to find the characters and such after your file is unzipped go to the button below "Using that Dingbat"
